How To Help Your Child Tour College Campuses

So the time has finally come. Your child – your precious little once – is now at a point where they are signing up to take the ACT or the SAT. They are working extra hard and brownnosing to all their teachers, hoping to get great letters of recommendation.

This is all not to mention begging to take them on tour campus potential, both local and remote. While this process can be an unnerving for you, you can take steps to make the campus tour a bit ’softer and more pleasant for the whole family.

First of all, you and your child needs to organize. If this is the first of your children to take these steps, you may feel at a loss, so start with the basics. Start out which universities your son or daughter is interested in. This should be done towards the beginning of his senior year – or perhaps even earlier.

Then, spend some ‘time to work with any other major decision makers in the family to decide to what extent it is reasonable travel, as you can budget for any trip you need to take, how long you can take off work, etc. If you and / or the spouse has a demanding work program, you may turn off with each other so none of you miss too much work.

If possible, try to plan well in advance. Weekends and holidays are always busy travel times and can lead to more expensive flights and accommodation, but several months making reservations in advance can save these inflated prices.

Try to take advantage of your child (or children) breaks from school. This will create a great opportunity to enjoy a family holiday. Talk to a travel agent or look through guides to find the best activities for everyone.

For example, while the child explores the University of Arizona, you might want to set aside some time for the family to go to Tucson hot air balloon ride.

If possible, visit an area that provides easy access to schools simultaneously. I could not even count the number of universities in San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles counties in southern California. And do not forget to call the university in advance to schedule a tour.

Finally, great attention to the journey itself. What it took to get to campus? While I was in high school, I wanted to attend a small private university in Illinois, but then I discovered that I had to fly to Chicago, take a train and then a series of buses before they could get. For me, it was too complicated and far too expensive!
