Helping Children and Teens Overcome Learning Challenges
Gerald Hughes spent most of his school life struggling with the effects of dyslexia and ADHD. While he excelled in mathematics and science, his grades in Language Arts, History and other subjects have suffered terribly because of his ongoing difficulties with reading and writing class as well as his struggles with attention and concentration. By his junior year, he had virtually given up on academics.
A decade passed before Gerald decided to tackle college. He specialized in communications and information technology. As someone who has always been interested in helping others, Gerald has created his first professional coaching program in 1994. And in 2004, began helping children with various learning difficulties.
“My journey to help others started with my struggle with the effects of dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder. And ‘continued with my experience as a father of six children, some of whom struggled with the effects of dyslexia and ADHD .
Today, Gerald is the father of two sons, Avery and Emily Rose and the stepfather of four children, Alex, Britton, Courtney and Darian. He met his current wife, Lisa, in 1998 and were married in September 2006.
Lisa, she grew up with dyslexia as did three of her five sisters. His son Alex was diagnosed with dyslexia spelling in 2005. Britton, Courtney Darian and then showed signs of dyslexia or ADD, but timely intervention were able to avoid serious problems at school.
Together, Lisa and Gerry studied and tested a range of mentoring approaches, phonetic programs, therapies and other interventions. Finally, before combining different disciplines in an integrated and successful program for each of their children.
“How many parents and those who have struggled with learning challenges, I have studied many of the so-called treatments available and I tried several with little success. What I realized was that many well-meaning therapists, counselors and tutors simply do not have understand the complexity of these learning challenges. ”
“Their supposed solutions often included extensive one-on-one tutoring, or hours and hours staring at a computer screen or looking through thousands of flashcards or numerous reviews of the rules of phonetics.
“To the dismay of myself and many others, these treatments are inappropriate simply ineffective, time consuming and often very expensive.”

In 2006, having achieved success with his children and many of their classmates, Gerald founded the Neuro-Linguistic Learning Center in El Dorado Hills, California. Since then, it has been assisting children and adults to overcome a series of learning challenges.
The Neuro-Linguistic Learning Center helps children and adults to overcome many of the symptoms associated with a variety of learning challenges, including ADD / ADHD, dyslexia, autism, Asperger Syndrome, Auditory Processing Disorder, SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) and Sensory Integration Disorder.
Customers range of Neuro-Linguistic Learning Center aged 2 years to 54. Their challenges may include symptoms of dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, autism, Asperger syndrome, sensory integration OCD, fears and phobias, procrastination and many other learning challenges.
About his experience as director of the Learning Center, Gerald said: “Ultimately, it’s been my personal experience with many children and adults who have come to the Learning Center, which helped provide an understanding of these challenges and ended with our ability to provide effective and life-changing solutions for our customers. ”
Gerald has lived in El Dorado County in the last 12 years and is the father and stepfather of six children, many of whom have had their own struggles with dyslexia, ADHD and other learning problems. He is a frequent speaker / lecturer on education and learning. And ‘author of the book, “Gifted – broken: overcoming dyslexia, ADHD and other learning challenges.”
