Hearing Parents Must Let Go Of Their Deaf Children
It is so difficult for hearing parents to let their children go deaf, but must leave to go!
Well, Larry, Amrit and Raveena (our first and only grandchild) has been living with us for the past years. Both are teachers passionate about teaching, but the teaching of their wages could be better. So they’ve been saving and looking for a house. We all thought that a house in our neighborhood would be ideal, close to Raz and I.
Amrit Larry and bought a house in our town, about 15 minutes. It is therefore in our city and our neighborhood. It is difficult for parents to let go. Larry and Amrit Not much, but Larry and Amrit, deaf parents with a baby. Raveena is 14 months and have been living with us since birth.
It Raz’s mother was worried about Larry, Amrit and Raveena move too. So Raz last night and called to put the finishing details on Larry, Amrit and move Raveena. And we persuade my mother why I should stop worrying. She is very close to Larry. He is her first grandchild and she took care of him while he worked for four first years of life.
So this is what mom said Raz:
1. Larry and Amrit are very independent. Amrit was born Larry independent and is in the same way. Raz and I are independent, so we understand independence. In fact independent children are blessings from the parents.
2. Larry and Amrit very excited and proud of their new home, with this new chapter in his life. So it is very good for them to take home and grow as adults. It turns out that the neighborhood of his new house is very cozy. Three neighbors welcomed them yesterday. A neighbor who is the original owner of your house has been living there for 40 years. He was the assistant superintendent of public schools in Marlboro and know that he and Larry remember when Larry was playing varsity football Marlboro High School. Neighbors next door has a son who will be celebrating its second birthday next week and invited Larry, Amrit and Raveena to the party.
3. When Larry left home and went to California to college which flourished and did exceptionally well. So this is another opportunity for him to excel.
4. Larry and Amrit have lived on their own in Maryland, while in graduate school for his master’s in Deaf Education.
5. Larry and Amrit is loving, caring, responsible and very parents. We have seen this first hand while Raveena parents have been over the past 14 months.
Raz was telling me this morning he awoke, it was raining, dark and sad and a difficult drive to work. But he was happy with disbelief, like a huge weight has been lifted from his shoulders! Then he realized at the same time convince your mom do not worry, you have convinced yourself too.
So I have to say, if you as parents, did his job well increasing their deaf child with special needs, treat them as normal as possible, their desire for independent living is the real confirmation of a job well done!
