Danny the Dragon Author Nominated for Prestigious Book Award

Children’s author, researcher and humanitarian Tina Turbin ( / a>) has been honored as a finalist in the prestigious National Best 2009 Book Awards for her children’s book of the famous, Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy ( http://DannyTheDragon.com / a>), in Children’s Painting best book category. Winners and finalists of the book, sponsored by the U.S. News Paper, was announced recently in USABookNews.com, the online magazine for excellence and website review of both general and independent publishers.

Turbin has been busy this year promoting his book and working on related projects. Recently announced the debut of Danny the Dragon Dreams CD on 30 October in a very special family concert on Halloween in Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California. The CD (the proceeds going to the Celiac Disease Research Center at Columbia University Medical Center) contains a reading from the book by a talented vocal artist, followed by a compilation of ten original songs by classical composers up-and-coming.

Turbin, a passionate proponent celiac ( http://GlutenFreeHelp.info ), was diagnosed with celiac disease, caused several years ago an allergic reaction to gluten, a component of wheat, barley, rye. It is estimated that 300 million Americans have it and only three percent of them know it. With only the deletion of this protein in their diet, who suffer from celiac disease can finally get relief for their variety of physical and mental symptoms.

A literacy advocate, Turbin, alarmed by the statistics of literacy among deaf people, has recently begun to increase support to education for deaf children. Turbin will be presented at the concert of their soon-to-be-released on DVD by Dragon Danny, a reading of the book signed for deaf children. Half of the funding for the project will be donated to the school children of deaf people, Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf in Clearwater, Florida, and other causes she supports.

Turbin book was the winner of second place for the 2009 Arizona Literary Contest and Book Awards, announced at a banquet on 07 November in Glendale, Arizona. Tina could not attend but was very honored to receive this award in the category of Children’s Literature.
